Caste discrimination continues in spite of the country making great strides in technology, observed Chairman of State SC and ST Commission Karem Sivaji here on Tuesday.
“I have toured nine districts so far and found that the discrimination is practised in different forms. Unfortunately the discrimination is observed in government offices also. The Revenue and Police departments are not acting strongly. All departments were told to fill backlog posts by June-end but not even notification was issued by some departments. Cases of atrocities against SCs and STs are neglected and the land allotted to the Dalits and Girijans is not being handed over”, Mr. Sivaji told media persons.
Reminding the Medical and Health Department of the likely outbreak of diseases in the Agency area as the monsoon has set in, he wanted all precautions taken and said stringent action would be taken against the officials even if one death was reported. All the ITDAs were told to distribute a medical kit and a mosquito net to every household.
Mr. Sivaji said the vacancies of Vice-Chancellor posts in six universities would be filled soon. Details are being collected to check if the SC and ST Sub-Plan funds were spent on Dalits and Girijans or not. Deputy Director of Social Welfare Ramana Murthy was also present.
