Burma Andhra Repatriates’ Association has asked the authorities concerned to foil attempts to grab two acre and five cents of land earmarked for allotment to them in ward No. 38 behind the Government ITI.
Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, Burma Andhra Repatriates’ Central Committee general secretary P. Venkatachalam and INTUC leader M.S. Mohan Kumar said that the SC Corporation had already made a proposal to build houses and allot to them.
They said as part of rehabilitation package, the government allotted nine acres and five cents to 788 repatriates from Myanmar in 1967. However, the authorities had given houses to only 600 and some vested interests were trying to encroach upon the unused land.
Dr. Mohan Kumar said the land should be protected and given to the remaining 188 repatriates as per the government policy. He said shops built at Yelamanchili Burma Bazaar and Dondaparthy Nehru Burma Bazaar should also be given to the genuine repatriates.
He regretted that the representations given on housing and employment to the Collector and the Revenue Divisional Officer had fallen on deaf ears.
