Awards for young Carnatic artistes

The annual gold medal award to young and upcoming artistes of classical music of the Sri Vijaya Tyagaraja Sangeetha Sabha is scheduled to be given away to three exponents on Sunday.

The awards would be given away to Carnatic vocalist from Hyderabad K. Lahari, Carnatic Violin player H. Ramacharan and Mridangam artiste M. Kamesh both from the city, vice president of the Sangeetha Sabha D. Bhaskara Murthy said in a statement here.

The three young upcoming artistes would be presented each with a citation, shawl and new clothes along with the gold medal worth Rs 23000.

Retired deputy collector Ch Sanyasi Raju would preside over the function at Sankarmatham here on Sunday evening.

Former head and professor of Classical Music in Andhra University V. Gowri Sundari and musicologist and professor of Microbiology in Andhra Medical College Perala Bala Murali Krishna would be chief guests. Ms. Lahari is an A Grade Artiste of All India Radio, while H. Ramacharan and M. Kamesh are B High Grade Artistes of All India Radio.
