Athletes start arriving for 3-day event

Athletes started arriving in the city on Thursday for the three-day 13{+t}{+h}Shriram Properties National Inter-District Junior Athletics commencing Saturday.

In all, 665 boys and girls in the under-14 and under-16 age groups from several States along with their coaches and officials arrived. Officials, after receiving them at the reception counter at the railway station, sent them by buses to hostels in the city.

Announcements were made in Hindi, English, and Telugu to guide them to the reception counter. Reception counters were also opened at RTC Complex.

Screening of the athletes by the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) officials led by Dr. Arun Mandiretta to determine their age commenced at the hostels after the athletes settled down.

Boys are being screened at Sri Chaitanya institution’s hostel at Marikavalasa and girls at the Tribal Welfare College of Excellence.

Managing Director of Sports Authority of AP Rekha Rani, CEO of Athletics Federation of India Manish Kumar, secretary of District Athletics Association D. Nageswara Rao are supervising the arrangements being made at the Port Stadium.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu would officially declare the meet open at around 5 p.m.
