July 28, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:59 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

Vizag Film Society (VFS) in association with Milestone Venture is organising a five-day Asian panorama film festival starting from August 1.

During the festival nine critically acclaimed films from countries such as South Korea, Kazakhstan, Nepal, India, Pakistan, Philippines, Japan, Vietnam and China will be screened at Visakha Public Library Hall at 6 p.m. All the films will have English subtitles.

“This is the first time we are screening Asian films in the city. Many film buffs in the city aren’t aware of the great works of Asian filmmakers. We also wanted to include films from Bhutan and Bangladesh but due to logistic issues we could not get the prints on time,” said Narava Prakasa Rao, founder of VFS.

Some of the films to be screened during the festival are

Chaitanya Tamhanee’s critically acclaimed Marathi film ‘Court’, Yermek Tursunov’s ‘Old Man’, Mehren Jabbar’s ‘Ramchand Pakistan’, Yojiro Takita’s Japanese film ‘Departures’, Tony Bui’s Vietnamese film ‘Three Seasons’.

The entry to the festival is free. The films will be screened daily at 6 p.m. from August 1 to 5 at Visakha Public Library.
