Appoint full-time DPOs, Minister urged

March 28, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:49 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

The Akhila Bharata Panchayati Parishad has sought appointment of full-time District Panchayat Officers who are also well versed with the AP Panchayati Raj Act to the districts where in-charge officers are heading the department.

The APPR Act stipulates that an officer who has good knowledge of the Act must be appointed as DPO but in some districts officers from other departments, like Revenue, are made in-charge DPOs. This has resulted in the officers burdened with duties of their parent department and also were not able to clear files because they were not well versed with the Act, all-India secretary of the Akhila Bharat Panchayati Parishad Jasti Veeranjaneyulu said in a letter to Minister for Panchyat Raj Ch. Ayyanna Patrudu.
