Polio drops were administered to the children below 5 years of age at railway and bus stations and at the airport on Sunday as part of the Pulse Polio Immunisation (PPI) programme.

Minister for HRD Ganta Srinivasa Rao launched the programme at Girijan Bhavan at MVP Colony.

The Minister said that the success of polio eradication was dependent on the cooperation of all sections of society. District Nodal Officer for Pulse Polio G. Savitri participated in the programme.

District Collector Pravin Kumar inaugurated the programme at Health Centre at China Waltair.

Special booths were also set up in various wards of the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) and also at busy junctions and apartment complexes.

Polio drops would be administered to children in the target group, who were missed on Sunday, at their homes on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

District Immunisation Officer Vijayalakshmi was present at the programme.
