Two more succumb to dengue in State

Victims include five-year-old from Kadapa and a woman from Prakasam district

Dengue fever claimed two more lives around the State with one death reported from Kurnool district and another from Prakasam.

A 47-year-old woman succumbed to suspected dengue even as more than 50 persons tested positive for the disease in Prakasam district on Wednesday.

In Kurnool, a five-year-old girl died of dengue fever in a private hospital on Thursday. The girl, Namrata, belonged to Yellampalle in Mydukur town in Kadapa district. She had been suffering from high fever, and was treated at Mydukur for a fortnight before being shifted to Kurnool in a serious condition on Wednesday.

In Ongole, District Medical and Health Officer K. Padmavathi said the dengue victim, V. Thallupalamma from Pallapalem near Ulavapadu, was admitted to a private hospital in Singarayakonda with complaints of high fever, headache and muscle and joint pains on September 17. She was later shifted to a multi-speciality hospital in Nellore where shed died while undergoing treatment late on Wednesday.

The woman was also suffering hepatitis B and a kidney ailment. She was not subjected to ELISA test, Dr. Padmavathi added.

As many as 36 patients had tested positive for dengue in the first spell in this district and another 18 in the second, she said, adding that they are responding well to treatment.

The Health Department is conducting household survey for dengue incidence, while taking measure to improve sanitation and anti-larval operations across the district in coordination with the Rural Water Supply and Panchayat Raj Departments to prevent the spread of the vector-borne disease, she said.

Meanwhile, Chittoor district, which witnessed over 1,200 dengue cases and 30 casualties, since June is slowly coming back to normalcy, with the number of patients coming down. DM&HO K. Koteswari said in July and August, the dengue cases stood over 900. “In September, the number of cases till now (24th) is less than 175 ,” she said.

In Vizianagaram 16 dengue cases have been recorded so far. There is a high incidence of Malaria in the district with 2,566 cases being recorded this season, according to the DM & HO.
