Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has urged Backward Classes Commission Chairman K.L. Manjunath to submit a report on inclusion of Kapus in the BC list at the earliest, and in nine months if possible.

Mr. Justice Manjunath met the Chief Minister here on Thursday. The Commission could enlist the services of 1.8 lakh teachers in the State to complete the exercise. The Commission was also asked to gather details of castes that were socially and economically backward.

“The government is contemplating providing reservation to Kapus based on the recommendations of the Commission,” the Chief Minister told the Commission Chairman.

Mr. Naidu said that attempts to provide reservation to Kapus without proper survey and recommendation of the BC Commission did not stand legal scrutiny. Hence, the government wanted to avoid legal complications. The government would also appoint the remaining members of the Commission, he said.

The Cabinet Sub Committee on the quota also interacted with Mr. Justice Manjunath. Its members Yanamala Ramakrishnudu, Chinnarajappa, Kollu Ravindra, and P. Narayana were present.
