Special status to AP: Another man commits suicide

In the third incdent of suicide in as many days dejected by the Centre's response to granting Special Category Status to Andhra Pradesh, a 40-year-old man S. Uday Bhanu committed suicide by hanging himself at his residence in Srirampuram Colony here in the early hours of Friday. He expressed anguish over the alleged denial of Special Category Status (SCS) to Andhra Pradesh.

In a note found on his body, Bhanu wrote that gross injustice was meted out to A.P. and held Congress President Sonia Gandhi responsible for it. He was also critical of politicians whom he accused of promoting self interests, and questioned them as to what answer the political parties had for the mess in which the State landed after bifurcation.

According to the police, Bhanu was a fairprice shop dealer and had played an active part during the agitation for unified State (Samaikyandhra). He was in a dejected mood for the last few days and has been seriously discussing the Special Category Status issue with his friends and family. Deputy Superintendent of Police Y. Ankineedu Prasad is investigating.
