New Rythu Bazaar: structures at V.M. Ranga Park razed

May 30, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:48 am IST - VIJAYAWADA:

Works for the construction of the Rythu Bazaar at the Alankar Centre began on Sunday with the VMC workers bringing down all the properties including a restaurant on the premises of V.M. Ranga Park on the bund of Ryves Canal alongside Sambamurthy Road.

Along with the announcement of Vijayawada Square, District Collector Babu A. announced the shifting of the existing Swaraj Maidan Rythu Bazaar to the park area at Alankar Centre. On Saturday midnight, all the structures which were leased out were demolished.

The land is under litigation with a case registered in the High Court.

The leaseholders obtained an interim stay from the High Court following a dispute with the Municipal Corporation in 2012.

B. Srinivas Rao, managing partner of the park and business establishments, alleged that the authorities had violated the court order. “We are left with no option. We will file a contempt of court petition against the concerned. We were not given any notice prior to demolition,” he bemoaned.
