July 22, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 06:05 am IST - VIJAYAWADA:

Gannavaram-based pastor Veerapaneni Johnson Chowdary aka Srinivas Chowdary, who went missing in the United States, is reportedly in the custody of the Los Angeles Police Department.

It is learnt that Mr. Johnson called up his wife V. Subhashini in the wee hours of Thursday and informed her that he was currently in the custody of the police and would be back soon.

Mr. Johnson flew to the US on June 3 on a 40-day tour and was supposed to return on July 13. Since he did not turn up in his hometown even after five days of the scheduled time of arrival, his wife alerted the local police.

On Thursday, she informed the police about the phone call from her husband. However, the reason behind Mr. Johnson being taken into custody by the LAPD police is yet to be revealed. Mr. Johnson is likely to be produced before a local court in Los Angeles on July 28 which will decide his fate.
