Meter readers threaten relay hunger strike

February 12, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:42 am IST - VIJAYAWADA:

The United Electricity Contract Workers Union (UECWU), affiliated to CITU, State general secretary R.V. Narsimha Rao on Thursday said that the UECWU would conduct relay hunger strikes in front of SPDCL CMD office demanding the State government to extend PF and ESI facilities to meter readers.

Mr. Rao said that the meter readers are working for paltry sum.

Demands

The government pays a mere Rs.1.25 per reading. They are not entitled for ESI and PF facilities in SPDCL. Its counterpart EPDCL is extending these mandatory facilities. The SPDCL was requested to take a cue from the EPDCL. The meter readers are demanding monthly wages, identity cards and salaries through banks.

These demands would be highlighted at the relay hunger strike, he added.
