They are a small group of students from Siddhartha Law College who dabble in Telugu comedy short films and upload them on YouTube just for the joy of it. Pyaar Impossible was their first film. The 11-minute comedy film put on YouTube on December 1 last year has garnered 18,300 views. The second movie, Chandravanka , put on YouTube on January 6 is a bigger hit as it has been viewed 32,285 times in less then five months.
It is their third movie Nandalala that has grabbed attention. Some of the major Telugu movie websites have already gone for a tie-up with the Legal Lion’s Multimedia that produced the film. Posted on YouTube on May 4, the short film has already attracted 2,805 hits in four days. Tolly Review and Short Film Industry (SFI) have already hosted the short film on their websites. The Telugu movie YouTube Channel, Telugu Filmnagar, that has over 13.38 lakh subscribers and its Facebook page with over 5 lakh likes, is also in touch with the amateur group.
Founder, director and actor P. Parasuram says while earlier short movies were of 11 minutes and 12 minutes duration, Nandalala a is 24-minute-long film. Deviating from the pure comedy genre, the makers have blended comedy with an element of romance in their third film.
Interestingly, Mr. Parasuram and his team members Kavya Pappula (co-director) Gopinadh Reddy (Producer) and Shyam Agnihotram learnt the ropes of film-making all by themselves from the internet. Nandalala is entirely shot in the house of one of the actors, S Adinarayana whose pet dog also has a role in it. Roles are cast for friends and fellow students. Mr. Adinarayana, a business and family friend, has been cast as the father of the heroine.
Mr. Parasuram says that short films (movies that are of less than 30 minutes duration) serve as a spring board to full length feature films. The hero of the hit film Uyyalla Jampala started his career with short films before he was discovered by the Telugu film industry, he says.
