Reacting to the report published in The Hindu – "Absence of sports policy puts athletes in a fix" on Thursday – the organisers of the School Games Federation of India athletic meet (under-19 category) at Kurnool has postponed the event to help athletes take part in the South India athletic meet scheduled to be held at Karimnagar.
The Hindu published an item as athletes approached the paper expressing their dilemma in taking part in the two events which are held simultanelously. “ The Kurnool meet, which was supposed to be held from October 3 and 5, has been postponed to October 7 to 9, thus helping the athletes to take part in the South India meet at Karimnagar on October 4 and 5. The change of dates was conveyed to us by Mr. Harshavardhan, secretary, Kurnool District Athletic Association," said AP chief athletic coach Vinayak Prasad. “We are thankful to the organising committee of SGFI for swiftly reacting to take the corrective course for the benefit of the young athletes of Andhra Pradesh, Mr. Prasad added.
