Taking the thrill of adventure water sports to the next level, the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC) has introduced kayaking and standup pedal boards at the picturesque Bhavani Island in River Krishna.

In tie-up with Champions Yacht Club, a Goa-based private yachting company, the tourism authorities have added two new facilities in the fleet of water sports that embellish the river expanse.

The deep blue water, cool wind blowing in your hair and the thrill of adventure; with water sports there is never a dull moment.

Ever since the river acquired a new sheen thanks to the 20-odd water sports making it a hot favourite of adventure junkies, people, especially youngsters, have been thronging in droves.

“Water sports are adventurous, fun-filled, action packed, and exciting. Besides physical exertion and mental stimulation, they offer a visual treat, motivation and a feeling of elation. The best part of the wide range of water activities available here is that these sports can be played in, on, or even under water,” said Sree Ranga Sai, Manager, (local operations), Champions Yacht.

Kayaking, one of the fastest outdoor activities, is now a local sport.

And if you are not content with this highly-efficient sport, you can opt for stand up pedal boards that make for a new kind of aquatic adventure by allowing vertical users to glide across the water simply by moving their legs up and down. It allows users to pedal their kayak like a bicycle, which moves a pair of flippers beneath the vessel back and forth to propel the craft forward.

“I am extremely excited about the stand-up pedal board which helps you to walk on water. Going at this rate, very soon we may have boards that you can take a nap on while it rides the waves and water for you. Things are turning too exciting here,” gushes Soumya Ranjani, waiting for the trainers to explain the nitty-gritty of the new sport.

The cruise boat and all the water sports available in the river will be formally inaugurated by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu sometime this month-end. “Next in the list is a water car and a water bus,” said Mr. Sai.
