The All India Brahmin Federation (AIBF) has resolved to launch a nation-wide campaign urging the government to implement the recommendations of the National Commission for Economically Backward Classes (EBC) headed by Major General (Retired) S.R. Sinho.

The federation’s national executive meeting was held here on Sunday. Addressing the gathering, AIBF secretary-general Pradeep Jeothi said that the community suffered major setbacks due to poor economic standing.

The economic backwardness should be the criterion for reservations to any community, irrespective of caste affiliations. The federation would launch a massive campaign stressing the need for a helping hand for the EBC, he said.

Dr. Jeothi said that it was pertinent to mention that the Sinho Commission had submitted its report in July 2010. It made a total of 14 recommendations.

One of which said that the EBC, who number 5-6 crore, deserve the same concession as extended to the SCs and STs. The successive governments did not take any action on the recommendations, he said, adding that the Central government was requested to take necessary steps in this regard.

Visakha Sarada Peetham seer Swaroopanandendra Saraswathi blessed the gathering. AIBF president Bhanwar Lal Sharma, former president Devendra Sarma, chief adviser Kota Sankara Sarma, Andhra Pradesh Brahmana Seva Sangham Samakhya president Jwalapuram Srikanth, and others spoke.
