Govt. to invoke PD Act on call money organisers

December 16, 2015 12:00 am | Updated March 24, 2016 10:11 am IST - VIJAYAWADA:

Director-General of Police (DGP) J.V. Ramudu on Tuesday said the State government would invoke the Preventive Detention (PD) Act against call money organisers.

Speaking to reporters at his camp office, he said police had conducted Statewide raids on the houses and offices of the racketeers and seized several documents. They also took several persons into custody, he added.

He said granting private loans was not a crime, but added that when the lender harassed the victim by attaching his/her movable or immovable properties, and misbehaved with then, police would act tough.

“Nobody involved in the racket will be spared. Special teams have been formed to arrest organisers across the State. Money lending should be with mutual consent, and it should not give any scope for criminal activity,” the DGP said.

Mr. Ramudu added that the government had good intelligence network, and that there was no question of failure of intelligence. On the involvement of political leaders in the racket, the State police chief said investigation officers were verifying the background of the accused. “There are several call money organisers involved in other illegal business. They will also be booked under relevant Sections,” the DGP said.
