The revenues of the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC) are likely to take a beating this Karthika Maasam owing to the ongoing flyover works near the Kanaka Durga temple that has necessitated the closure of the road to Harita Berm Park, the boarding point for people to reach Bhavani Island by boat for the ‘Vanabhojanam’ ceremony.

“Since people have to take a roundabout route to reach the island resort, it’ll certainly have an impact on footfalls in the island this year. We have made alternative arrangements by deploying boats at Krishnaveni Motel and Durga Ghat, besides Berm Park, to ferry visitors to the island,” APTDC Divisional Manager V.V.S. Gangaraju said.

Incidentally, the lack of publicity about the alternative mode of travel to the island is also a reason for the dwindling number of visitors, but the authorities hope that the number of visitors improves in the weeks to come.

Meanwhile, on the island, a plethora of events are being organised. “Sporting activities like Burma Bridge, spider web and country swings keep visitors busy. We look forward to receiving larger crowds in the weeks to come,” Mr. Gangaraju said.
