Renowned epigraphist and numismatist P.V. Parabrahma Sastry died on Wednesday. He died of brain haemorrhage and is survived by wife, a son and two daughters.

Born in Pedda Kondur village of Duggirala mandal in Guntur district in 1921, Mr. Sastry joined the Department of Archaeology as an employee in 1959 and went on to become the Deputy Director of the epigraphy wing. He was also the president of the Andhra Pradesh History Congress and the South Indian Numismatic Society.

His extensive research work on historic inscriptions and coins representing ancient dynasties won him widespread accolades.

In 2010, the then Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy had said that the works of Mr. Sastry would be of immense benefit to the future generations.

His death is an irrevocable loss,” said P. Chenna Reddy, vice-president of the South Indian History Congress and former Director of Andhra Pradesh Department of Archaeology and Museums.
