The Crime Investigation Department (CID) police investigating the Tuni violence, are planning to arrest the accused involved in arson, attacking of police stations and burning of train and some vehicles.

On January 31, miscreants who entered the meeting held for demanding inclusion of Kapus in Backward Classes category, attacked Tuni railway station, two police stations and set Ratnachal Express on fire. A few policemen sustained injuries in the incident that occurred in East Godavari district.

The accused torched some vehicles, attacked Tuni Rural and Urban police stations, roughed up some police officials after indulging in violence. One Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, three Superintendents of Police (SPs), five Additional SPs, DSPs and other officers of CID are investigating the case and are trying to expedite the investigation into the case.

Police identified nearly 500 persons who perpetrated violence, ransacking and burning the vehicles at different places in Tuni town during the Kapu meeting. The accused were identified based on the call recordings cellphone towers, video clippings and CCTV footages.

Cases have been registered against the accused for organising the meeting without obtaining prior permission, staging rasta roko, attacking police stations, torching vehicles and Ratnachal Express, damaging public property, preventing public servant for discharging duties and other charges. “The incident occurred in a planned manner. The accused managed to avoid media channels and resorted to violence. Some accused lost their mobile phones which were traced later at different places in Tuni,” said a police officer.

Some women were also found participating in the arson in the CCTV footage. The accused will be booked under various charges depending on the evidence collected from the scene of offence, the officer added. Besides, CID the Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) also registered cases on the violence and investigation is under progress.

Role of rowdy sheeters

Meanwhile, Home Minister Nimmakayala Chinarajappa, on Sunday told the media that the investigation in Tuni violence case is about to complete and the role of some of some rowdy sheeters was identified during the investigation. “The government will book all the accused irrespective of their status in the case and ensure that the accused are punished severely,” the Minister said.
