The AP State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) has announced 25 per cent concession in bus fares for senior citizens.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Corporation’s Executive Director, Operations, said the concession would apply in A/C buses also. He said senior citizens (60 years and above) must show their original Aadhar card as their age proof while buying the ticket or booking it online.

However, the subsidy component will not be applicable to other components such as reservation fee, toll plaza user fee and passenger cess. Warning against misuse of the facility, he said those found guilty would attract punishment under Section 178 of the Motor Vehicle Act-1988.

The facility comes into effect from July 1 but it would not apply to tickets already booked in advance.

The Corporation’s Vice-Chairman and Managing Director N. Sambasiva Rao on Wednesday felicitated 100 drivers for their outstanding services.

The RTC management has also announced a comprehensive awareness programmes for over 1,300 drivers on key issues.
