Hotels in Vijayawada are gearing up for Krishna Pushkarams.

Sub-Collector G. Srujana called upon hoteliers to allot 20 per cent of the rooms to VVIPs during the Krishna Pushkarams and cooperate with the district administrating in letting out the remaining rooms.

At a review meeting with the hospitality industry representatives here on Thursday, Ms. Srujana said the Pushkaram Special Officer would from time to time issue instructions on the allotment keeping the heavy influx of pilgrims and the need to accommodate VVIPs in view.

It was estimated that 3.50 crore pilgrims were expected to take part in the 12-day river festival and the help of hoteliers was essential for making the stay comfortable for important persons.

Ms. Srujana wanted the hoteliers to display the tariffs and receive the guests with honour as the Pushkaram was being celebrated as a State festival. It was in their own interest to earn the goodwill of the customers. The hoteliers could follow the 12-hour tariff system. An important thing is that the hoteliers should insist on the submission of Aadhar numbers or some statutory identity proofs of those seeking accommodation. Over 90 hoteliers took part in the meeting.
