Unregistered children home under scanner

The Tiruchi City Police has launched a preliminary inquiry into a complaint lodged by the District Social Welfare Officer (DSWO) against an “unregistered” children home in the city seeking necessary action against its authorities for not providing specific details of children accommodated in the home and on other aspects. Acting on the complaint, the K.K. Nagar police visited the Children Home functioning at Ranga Nagar in Subramaniapuram here on Sunday to ascertain details of children accommodated in the home, sources said.

The DSWO who had inspected the home last year and in the current year had complained to the police that it was not registered under the Juvenile Justice Act which was mandatory as per government rule and the home authorities had not provided specific details of children. Conflicting information with respect to the starting of the home in Tiruchi was given during inspection by Social Welfare Department officials, DSWO S. Usha said. The authorities had not disclosed from where they had brought the children and on whose permission.
