A junior assistant employed at the Lalgudi Panchayat Union office was reported to have committed suicide by hanging at his home in Srirangam on Friday. Police said, K. Thiyagarajan (40), a bachelor, was found hanging using a towel from a window grill at one of the rooms at his house at East Adayavalanjan Street in Srirangam on Friday. On being alerted by his parents, police rushed to the house and removed the body for post-mortem. Although sources said that Thiyagarajan had left a suicide note attributing work pressure from higher authorities, police declined to confirm it. Srirangam police have registered a case and are investigating. Persons in need of counselling can contact the State helpline 104 or Sneha Suicide Prevention Centre by dialling 044-24640050.
