The Video Piracy Cell (VPC), Tiruchi unit, busted an illegal unit in Thanjavur which was allegedly selling obscene movies and pirated versions of new Tamil and English films after downloading them from the Internet. It raided the unit and arrested its owner Soundarajan (23) of Keezhavasal in Thanjavur on Saturday.

The accused was a diploma holder in fire and safety management course. Three computer terminals, equal number of central processing units, card readers, a Wi-Fi antenna and a few digital video discs were seized from him. The unit had been functioning in a rented portion of a highway motel on the by-pass road near Thanjavur for the past two years, sources said. Truck drivers who frequented the motel for dining were the customers.

Some of the latest movies which the accused had allegedly downloaded from the Internet included ‘Thani Oruvan’, ‘Paayum Puli’ and ‘49-0.’
