Eye donation awareness

Dr. Varuna’s Gift of Sight Eye Hospital in the city would organise an eye donation awareness drawing contest for schoolchildren on September 7. The contest is aimed at raising awareness on corneal blindness and eye donation so that the burden of corneal blindness could be reduced. The contest would be held at Ayesha Matriculation School. The contest would be held in three categories – for students of classes 6 and 8, classes 8 to 10 and higher secondary, according to a press release.

Paddy seeds to be

distributed

Subsidised paddy seeds are being distributed under the National Agricultural Development Programme and farmers could purchase the same through the agricultural extension centres in the district, Collector K.S. Palanisamy said in a release. The seeds of various varieties are available with a subsidy of Rs. 10 a kg and farmers can approach the assistant agricultural officers, agricultural officers or assistant directors of agriculture in their respective areas to get the seeds, he added.
