Amna K. Anwar and Thamanna Hari of St. Thomas Higher Secondary School and K.S. Karthik and R. Aswath of St. Shantal School, Malamukal, emerged winners in the junior and senior categories respectively of the 16th edition of The Hindu-Young World Quiz , considered the biggest quizzing event at the school level, held at the Panchayat Association hall here on Thursday.

In an exciting final in the junior category, the all-girls team from St. Thomas Higher Secondary School pushed two teams from Loyola School represented by Prathith Chivukola, Ahamed Iqbal, Ashutosh S. and Lenoy John to the second and third spots.

For the duo from St. Shantal School, the first spot meant grabbing an opportunity they missed last year when they lost to a team from Loyola School by a whisker.

They did it in style in a high-scoring final, pushing a Loyola team represented by Rohith Chivukola and Sidharth S. Nair to the third spot. The team from Sarvodaya Vidyalaya represented by Alwin Michael Santhosh and Akshaya Anil Kumar secured the second prize.

The two teams from Loyola School were in the top spots in the preliminary rounds, but the duo from St. Shantal did some excellent and smart quizzing, particularly in the last leg of the finals to romp home with the trophy

The first prize winners received trophies, bicycles, certificates, and gifts. Additional Director General of Police, South Zone, K. Padmakumar gave away the prizes. Mr. Padmakumar, who himself was an avid quizzer during his college days, complimented the winners for their good show.

The quiz was presented by the Vellore Institute of Technology, and powered by Neo IAS. The national gift partner was Firefox. The goodie partner was Kokuyo Camlin while Kerala Tourism was the regional sponsor of the event, which had as regional gift sponsors the Trinity College of Engineering, Pravachambalam, and Hotel Hycinth by Sparsa, Thampanoor
