Not enough women candidates in Assembly polls, say activists

April 09, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 07:15 am IST - Thiruvananthapuram:

A group of women activists, under the banner of Sakhi Resource Centre, has protested against the political parties not giving adequate representation to women in the Assembly elections. In a statement here, Sakhi said the UDF had fielded just eight women. All Mahila Congress leaders were not considered. The LDF had given seats to 17 women, but as a party that stood for gender equity, it should have reserved at least 30 per cent of the seats for women. Though the BJP had fielded seven women, the party fielded women in seats which it had no hope of winning.
