New way to clean Parvathy Puthanar

The government will source a new technology to clean up Parvathy Puthanar, Minister for Power Kadakampally Surendran has said.

Mr. Surendran was chairing a meeting at the Collectorate to discuss measures to be adopted in the city to avoid flooding during monsoon. He said the government would try to adopt the technology used in Chennai to clean up canals there. The Minister directed officials to clear the Amayizinchan canal ahead of monsoon to avoid stagnation.

Complaints

He said a meeting would be convened next week to look into complaints that the Public Works Department was not cleaning stormwater drains.

The Minister directed the PWD to provide a status report at the meeting, an official release here said.

He also urged the District Collector to relocate people residing near the quarry units at Tholikoode. K.S. Sabarinadhan, MLA, presented at the meeting the plight of those residing near the units. He said the quarry units were unsafe.

The Collector asked the departments concerned to prune branches of trees which are dangerously positioned. The government would conduct a special cleaning drive from June 1 to 5. The MLAs have been asked to coordinate departments in the cleaning drive.

The public may use the Collectorate helpline numbers 2730045 and 944711281 to register complaints, including on spread of contagious diseases in their locality. D.K. Murali, I.B. Satheesh, V.S. Sivakumar, MLAs; and Deputy Mayor Rakhi Ravikumar attended the meeting.
