: Talks between the Kerala Private Medical College Management Association (KPMCA) and the State government on admission to the MBBS seats in self-financing medical colleges in the State on Friday remained inconclusive as the KPMCA was not willing to accept the government’s stand that the allotment to all seats, including the management quota seats, in these colleges be conducted through common counselling.

The government took the stand that the Supreme Court as well as the Union Health Ministry has issued directives that admissions to self-financing medical colleges in the State should be on the basis of a common list prepared by the State government based on the National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET).

Colleges’ stance

The self-financing colleges management took the stand that while it had no objections to the government conducting admissions in 50 per cent of the seats, it should be allowed to conduct admissions to the rest of the seats on the basis of NEET. president of KPMCA Krishna Das said they were not willing to accept the government’s “adamant stand,” which did not recognise the right of the management to admit students to management quota.

He said as of Thursday, all self-financing colleges in other States had resumed their admission process and were filling seats on the basis of NEET.
