May 19, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:47 am IST - Thiruvananthapuram:

The Poovar police on Wednesday arrested a 34-year-old man on charges of hacking a woman after barging into her house. The accused has been identified as Mahesh, a carpenter by profession and a relative of the victim.

Mahesh went to the woman’s house in an inebriated state around 9.30 p.m. on Tuesday. When she refused to open the door, he forcibly opened it and attacked her. He fled the scene by the time neighbours reached her house after hearing her screams. The 36-year-old widow was living with her two children and father. The police said Mahesh and the woman were in a relationship and were living together after her husband’s death some years ago. The woman’s condition is stated to be stable.
