Kodiyeri: Cong. hand in glove with BJP

April 26, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:47 am IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

The CPI(M) State secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has said the party that is really guilty of clandestine tie-up with the BJP and its earlier versions is the Congress and not the CPI(M).

In a statement here on Monday, Mr. Balakrishnan said the Chief Minister’s allegation was born out of the fear that the LDF would score a massive victory in the elections. The Chief Minister’s attempt was to subvert the election outcome by aligning with the BJP. His reference to the tie-up between the CPI(M) and the Jan Sangh during the Emergency was part of this strategy. The tie-up of the CPI(M) was actually with the Janata Party formed under Jayaprakash Narayan’s leadership.

Mr. Chandy and other leaders had come out against the Emergency only after its withdrawal. Those who had broken away from the Congress and became part of the LDF in 1980 also included Mr. Chandy, he said.
