The District Development Council (DDC) has urged the National Highway wing of the Public Works Department to implement the traffic improvement plan prepared by the State Planning Board for Attingal town.

The council, which met here on Saturday, urged the PWD to take up the project on a priority basis. Land acquisition for widening the road and executing other works would not be a difficult task as people have agreed to part their land for the project. The board had prepared a detailed plan to ease traffic congestion. The project would cost a sum of Rs 15 crore, an official release here said.

Raising the issue, B. Sathyan, MLA, said the residents have to face difficulty because of the traffic congestion. The meeting, chaired by Sub-Collector, S. Karthikeyan, also directed the PWD to take up tarring work on the Vazhayila-Kachani stretch. The council urged the departments to have a coordinated approach while cutting roads to take up civil works.
