A 21-year-old youngster met with a tragic end on Thursday after he was reportedly trapped by strong undercurrents in a pool on a private plot at Mottavila under the Mannanthala police station limits.

The youngster, identified as Lal Krishna, son of Raghuvaran and Lekha of Sree Valsom House at Powdikonam here, had reached the pool around 4 p.m. along with three other friends.

According to the Mannanthala police officials, Lal Krishna was trapped under the water, possibly by undercurrents and could not swim his way out from the marshy pool bed.

Though local people rushed to the spot after his friends raised an alarm and took him out, he was declared brought dead at the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital.

The body of Lal Krishna, a third-year B.Sc. Zoology student of Mar Ivanios College, has been shifted to the MCH morgue, from where it will be handed over to the family after an autopsy on Thursday.

The college has declared a holiday on Thursday on account of the tragedy while the Mannanthala police have registered a case of unnatural death and are investigating.
