District Collector Biju Prabhakar stayed put in the counting centre till 1.30 p.m., even after news of his mother’s death reached him. Wife of former Finance Minister Thachady Prabhakaran, N.K. Sarojani, 73, passed away on Wednesday night. She was ailing for some time.
The family informed the Collector about his mother’s death only on the early hours of Thursday. Mr. Prabhakar spent the day at the control room overseeing the counting process. “I have to be here till the counting is over,” he told reporters. Once the counting was over, he finally left for Kayamkulam, where the cremation will take place at 2.30 p.m. on Friday.
She had served as a teacher at Pallana Mahakavi Kumaran Asan High School.
