Breather for trees in Kazhakuttam-Karode NH

September 01, 2015 12:00 am | Updated March 28, 2016 02:45 pm IST - Thiruvananthapuram:

The Kazhakuttam-Karode four-lane NH bypass project could set a precedent on treatment of trees during road development.

Shashi Tharoor, MP, said efforts would be taken to preserve trees along the median of the bypass, a ‘first such attempt in the country’, and those on the sides as well.

The three-pronged approach to trees will also include efforts to re-plant trees wherever possible.

Mr. Tharoor quoted Chief Secretary Jiji Thomson as stating that special equipment for this purpose would be brought in from other States.
