The City police have apprehended history-sheeter Sabu Praveen, alias Gundukad Sabu, 46, on Wednesday in connection with the attack on a youth in front of the office of the Kerala Public Service Commission at Pattom a week ago.
The police said Sabu was nabbed by a special police team from Nagercoil on Wednesday on the basis of a tip-off. His arrest was recorded by the Medical College police.
He is accused of having attempted to murder 22-year-old Ananthu of Barton Hill colony who had suffered serious injuries in the attack on June 7 and is under treatment at the Thiruvananthapuram Government Medical College Hospital.
Sabu had allegedly hatched the plot in retaliation to a previous clash that was orchestrated at the behest of Ananthu, a habitual offender. He also roped in the services of some goons who operated in Neyyattinkara for the purpose.
Ananthu was allegedly attacked by nine people, who arrived on three motorcycles. Soon after the incident, the police managed to apprehend seven persons in Neyyattinkara.
The police said Sabu had gone into hiding in Karnataka. He was apprehended after the police received information that he would be travelling on a bus from Bengaluru. The accused was arrested under various laws, including the Kerala Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act, in the past. Recently, he was involved in clashes over long-running feuds in the Barton Hill colony, many of which had taken place during the recent Assembly elections. Two cases in this regard were registered at the Museum police station, an official said.
