Sports meet postponed

The Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports has postponed the Mangaluru taluk-level Dasara Sports Meet scheduled at Mangala Stadium on September 2.

It is due to nation-wide strike called by trade unions. The sports meet will instead be conducted on September 7. However, the Mangaluru taluk rural sports meet will be conducted on September 3 as scheduled, according to a release.

Chennai train to be diverted tomorrow

Train No. 16859 Chennai Egmore – Mangaluru Express passing through Palakkad Junction towards Coimbatore will be diverted via Podanur-Irugur, without touching Coimbatore Junction, on September 3. The train will stop at Podanur Junction. The diversion is to facilitate track renovation work at Coimbatore Junction, a release said.

Competitions

at Pilikula

Aquariums and hatchery units of fresh water fish species will be opened at Dr. Shivaram Karanth Pilikula Nisargadhama on September 13. The nisargadhama has organised a speech competition for college students and an elocution competition for pre-university students on September 8 at the College of Fisheries, Yekkur. A painting competition for high school students will be conducted on September 13 at Urban Haat at Pilikula. More details can be obtained fromwww.pilikula.com, a release said.

Applications for awards invited

The Union government has invited applications for its Nari Shakti awards for 2015. There will be seven awards. Applications should be submitted before September 10 to the office of Deputy Director, Department of Women and Child Welfare, zilla panchayat, Kottara. For details, contact 0824 2451254.

Conference on

e-waste management

Canara College here will organise a two-day conference on e-waste management, challenges and opportunities from September 3. Praveen Kumar, Chief Executive, Research and Development, E-Parisaraa Pvt. Ltd., Bengaluru, will deliver the key-note address. Gokuldas Nayak, Deputy Commissioner (administration), Mangaluru City Corporation, will inaugurate it.

Masters athletics championship

Dakshina Kannada Masters Athletics Association and Udupi Masters Athletics Association will conduct an inter-district master athletics open championship at Mangala Stadium here on October 3 and 4.
