NMPT to handle more coffee exports

The New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) has said its proactive business promotion drive by conducting business meets at various locations of the hinterland has yielded positive results.

An official release here said that the port had a series of business meets at Chikkamagaluru and Mudigere where many coffee curing and trading firms are located.

The recent meet conducted on July 28 and 29 with Mudremane Coffee Curers, Vidya Coffee and Belur Coffee Curing & Trading Co. has contributed the movement of more coffee for export through the port.

Mudremane Coffee and Belur Coffee, who are already using New Mangalore Port have, assured to divert more cargo through the Port.

Vidya Coffee, who have set up a state of the art new fully mechanised coffee curing plant at Chikkamagaluru, has committed to move their entire export consignments through NMPT, the release said.

NMPT, being the highest coffee exporting port in the country, is keen in adding more infrastructure for the smooth handling of containers.

Additional container storage area of 20,000 sq. metres is already commissioned and another 23,000 sq. metres is nearing completion. In addition to the existing three reach stackers, two more will be inducted by September.

The port is also in the process of mechanising one of its general cargo berths for exclusively handling containers and other clean cargo.

Once all these development works are completed, the port is expected to emerge as one of the leading container handling ports in the west coast of the country, the release added.
