BJP to organise march in support of farmers in September

August 18, 2015 12:00 am | Updated March 29, 2016 03:59 pm IST - MANGALURU:

State BJP vice-president and Karkala MLA Sunil Kumar on Monday said the Raita Chaitanya Yatr, being organised by the party to lend support to farmers in the State, would be in Udupi, Dakshina Kannada and Kodagu districts on September 11 and 12.

Addressing party cadres at the divisional-level meeting here, Mr. Sunil Kumar urged party cadres to make the yatra a success.

The public meetings would be held at Udupi, B.C. Road and Somawarapete during these days, he said. He said the yatra would also demand loan waiver for farmers at a time when 115 taluks in the State have been affected by drought.

The MLA said that the government is planning to cancel thousands of BPL ration cards held by poor people residing in houses built on government land, on the ground that the houses do not bear door numbers.

“The government has failed on many fronts in giving effective administration,” he said.

Mr. Sunil Kumar said activists should highlight the failure of the Congress government in addressing concerns of farmers that was driving them to commit suicide. BJP Dakshina Kannada and Kodagu district presidents Pratapsimha Nayak and Ravi Kalappa, Lok Sabha Member Nalin Kumar Kateel and others were present.
