BJP, CPI, AITUC support transport strike

The BJP, the Communist Party of India (CPI) and the All-India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) have supported the transport strike called by employees of State-owned road transport corporations on July 25.

In a release here on Saturday, Sanjeeva Matandoor, president, Dakshina Kannada unit of the BJP, said that the government should consider the demand of employees to hike their pay by 30 per cent. H.V. Rao, secretary, Dakshina Kannada unit, AITUC, claimed that employees of the road transport corporations were getting low salary when compared to government employees in other departments. V. Kukyan, secretary, district unit of the CPI, said that the government should intervene and fulfil the demands of the employees.
