Beary literary awards to be presented today

B.M. Hanif, Mohammed K. Matha and Mohammed Ali Uchil will receive the Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy’s honorary awards at the Town Hall on April 16. The award comprises Rs. 50,000, a citation and a shawl.

Mr. Hanif has been chosen for the award in literature, Mr. Matha for his contribution to art and Mr. Uchil for culture. Yakub Khader Gulvadi will be presented the Dr. Vahab Doddamane Memorial Award, and M. Ismail will be conferred the Sushila Upadhyaya Memorial Award. The award presentation will be at 4.45 p.m.

Writer S.G. Siddaramaiah and Minister of State for Kannada and Culture Umashree will speak. A meet of young writers and artistes will be held at the hall at 2 p.m. Journalist B.M. Bashir and U.H. Khalid Ujire will be present. There will be an exhibition on the premises, which will be inaugurated by Minister of State for Youth Empowerment and Sports K. Abhayachandra Jain.
