The office of the Lokayukta will organise public meetings State-wide to listen to grievances of people and receive complaints, according to P. Vishwanath Shetty, Lokayukta.

Addressing a meeting of district-level officials at the office of the Deputy Commissioner here on Monday, he said that it would be to ensure that people got hassle-free services offered by the government without delay. But he did not specify from when exactly such meetings would begin.

Asking officials to maintain transparency in administration, he said that complaints were widespread that government schemes were not reaching people on time and there was delay. Officials should cultivate a mindset that they were working for the people. The Lokayukta would make all efforts to increase transparency in the government set-up.

Mr. Shetty said that if government schemes were implemented properly, there would be no pressure either on the Lokayutka or the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB). The Lokayutka officials have been directed to visit government offices and listen to the grievances of people. The visit was particularly to check whether government schemes have reached the people.

He asked officials concerned to check the quality of food being served in all government hostels. The services in government hospitals, anganwadis and the Department of Women and Child Welfare should reach poor people properly. There was a need to fill vacant posts of doctors in many hospitals. The urban local bodies should ensure that multi-storeyed buildings set up sewage treatment and rainwater harvesting facilities.
