Surathkal-based Sri Natyanjali Kala Academy has planned a unique art performance involving music, dance and Yakshagana, this weekend wherein 11 twins (sisters/brothers) would render different forms of art.

Titled Kalayugma, a State-level duet art festival, the programme to be held at the Town Hall on January 15 from 4.15 p.m., aims to bring out the twins’ talents and encourage such artistes, said academy director K. Chandrashekhara Navada.

Established in 1985, the academy has been striving to train youngsters in classical dance even as it has been organising different programmes to bring out the talent among them.

The academy had organised solo dance performance by 30 female artistes in 2015 to mark the three decades of its service. During the previous year, it had organised Prakruti-Purusha Lasya, dance programmes by artiste-couple, Mr. Navada said. For 2016-17, the concept has been artiste-twins, he noted.

Starting at 4.15 p.m., each artiste twins would render their specialised art form from a minimum of 10 minutes to a maximum of 40 minutes. The entire programme would conclude at 9 p.m. It would be inaugurated by Guru Ullal Mohan Kumar in the presence of Harikrishna Punarur, former president of Kannada Sahitya Parishat, and Karnataka Bank Managing Director and CEO P. Jayarama Bhat.

Kalayugma would feature twins performing Bharatanatyam, who include Anu and Bhava from Pavanje, Ananya and Apoorva from Mangaluru, Archana and Chetana from Bengaluru, Arushi and Ayushi from Mangaluru and Supriya and Supreetha from Manipal, while Sheela and Shaila from Mangaluru and Deeksha and Disha would render vocal music; Adithi and Arundhathi from Udupi would perform on the Violin; Herambha and Hemanth from Madikeri would perform on the Flute; Varna and Varsha from Mangaluru would stage a Yakshagana episode; and the entire programme would be compeered by Harshitha and Hashmitha.

Mr. Navada said that he has requested educational institutions in the region to send twin children for the programme.
