P. Muthukumar (24) of Meenakshi Nagar in Avaniyapuram was hacked to death by an armed gang in Avaniyapuram on Tuesday evening.
The police said that the deceased, an acting driver, had questioned two history-sheeters, Poovalingam and Prakash, who had reportedly assaulted Muthukumar’s neighbour Vignesh on Sunday.
However, Muthukumar was brought to his home by one of his relatives.
Enraged over the incident, the gang hacked him killing him on the spot in Muthuramalingam Street around 5.30 p.m.
The body was taken to Government Rajaji Hospital.
The city police have formed special teams to nab the perpetrators of the crime.
