State needs power sharing: Vasan

April 28, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:52 am IST - MADURAI:

Tamil Nadu now required a government based on power sharing as people were preparing to put an end to one-party, dictatorial, family and corrupt rule, said Tamil Maanila Congress leader G. K. Vasan on Wednesday.

Seeking votes for party candidate T. N. Bharat Natchiappan in Melur near here, Mr. Vasan said that people wanted a clean and transparent government and Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam leader Vijayakant would prove to be a model coalition leader.

This election, he was confident, would create history by ushering in coalition rule in the State, thus putting an end to the corrupt rule of the two major Dravidian parties.

He accused both the AIADMK and DMK of hoodwinking the people by providing freebies on one hand and indulging in corruption on the other.

The days of Kamaraj, when the State witnessed a revolution in education, industrial development and health, would be revived if the DMDK-People’s Welfare Front-TMC combine was voted to power, he said.

In the last 50 years, Tamil Nadu had slid to the bottom on all fronts and south Tamil Nadu had remained neglected.

He promised several sops for industrial development in south Tamil Nadu, including long tax holiday and loans at low interest rates for entrepreneurs.

Steps would also be taken to harness the tourism potential of the region by introducing chopper services from Madurai to Kodaikanal, Rameswaram and Kanyakumari.

Assuring to work for getting the level of Mullaperiyar dam raised to 152 feet, he said that the Third Front would also ensure water supply for tail-end areas. He accused the AIADMK and DMK of playing a role in the granite scam and said the Third Front, if voted to power, would order an enquiry to bring out the truth.

Mr. Vasan promised the farmers that all loans availed by them would be waived and support prices for paddy and sugarcane enhanced.

The TMC leader also addressed meetings in Madurai, Saruguvalayapatti, Thumbaipatti and Kottampatti.
