Three youths held for robbery in Madurai

Three youths who robbed an aged man, Veerasamy, of Rs. 200 at knifepoint on the road overbridge at Ellis Nagar in the small hours of Sunday were rounded up by alert police personnel and a Home Guard.

The police said that Mr. Veerasamy, working in a hotel in Ellis Nagar, was returning home after work around 12.30 a.m. When he was walking on the ROB, the youths rushed towards him and threatened him to part with the valuables at knifepoint. When the victim offered resistance, the youths inflicted bleeding injuries on his shoulder, hand and near ear. They also robbed him of Rs. 200 and fled the scene. When the victim alerted police control room, Special Sub-Inspector of Police Shanmugavel and head constable Murugan, who were on night duty at Periyar bus stand, and constable Sivakumar and Home Guard Dhanasekaran, who were on patrol duty, rounded them up. While two of them were 18 years old, one was 19 years old.
