Sub-Inspector dies in accident

A 28-year-old Sub-Inspector of Police attached to the Tamil Nadu Special Police XI Battalion in Rajapalayam was killed in a two-wheeler accident near Tirumangalam in the early hours of Saturday.

Police sources said that the deceased SI R. Ilango, hailing from Sivaganga district, must have been on his way to Madurai for personal work when the accident occurred.

Sources said that when he was riding on the bridge at Maravankulam, he was allegedly hit by an unidentified vehicle, killing him on the spot. Tirumangalam Town police have registered a case.

Chain snatched from woman

A chain weighing six sovereigns was snatched from a woman near her house in Mela Anuppanadi here on Saturday morning.

Police sources said that the victim, J. Tamilarasi (32), a resident of Tamil Nadu Housing Board Colony in Mela Anuppanadi, was on a walk near her house when two strangers coming on a motorcycle snatched her chain and sped away.

Avaniapuram police have registered a case and are investigating.
