Chithirai exhibition inaugurated

The annual government-run Chithirai Exhibition at Tamukkam ground was inaugurated by Collector K. Veera Raghava Rao in the presence of Information and Public Relations Department Additional Director (Exhibition) K. Thanappan on Saturday.

A press communiqué issued from the district administration said that the 45-day long exhibition will be open every day from evening 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.

27 stalls

Stalls put up by 27 government departments including Madurai Corporation, Co-optex and Aavin had been set up at the exhibition in accordance with the model code of conduct which is in place for the ensuing assembly elections.

Apart from this, stalls by private players have also been set up at the venue.

Officials said that cultural events such as music concerts, drama and folk arts also be arranged and discussions will also be arranged at the venue.

A nominal entry fee of Rs. 15 for elders and Rs. 10 for children will be collected, the communiqué said.

More than three lakh people visited the Chithirai exhibition last year and yielded a revenue of Rs. 38.98 lakh for the government.
